We Have Moved

This is the best thing
The best thing that could be happening
And I think you would agree
The best thing is that it's happening to you and me

We're here, back in Saskatoon. It still feels utterly surreal. I actually kind of feel like I'm housesitting here, not renting long-term. I can barely believe it's over, that all we have to do now is unpack things, start living life normally again.

The move went quite smoothly, all in all. We failed to get an impossibly large piece of furniture downstairs, but we've been assured that it can be safely taken apart and put back together with wood screws in the place it belongs - my downstairs office. I have a great deal of things languishing on the floor in my office as a result of this, but my office is beautifully bedecked in the two colors I requested from our landlords - deep green and purple - and I am set up with my required office things for the moment.

Moving day was utterly exhausting of course, but both Paul and I held up quite well considering. We had steady help throughout the day from different friends, and it made us both feel very loved to have so many helpful people giving us something valuable - their physical strength and errand-running abilities. My sister-in-law bought me the groceries I requested, which was an amazing gift since today there was freezing rain and I don't think I'm going to go out for anything tomorrow as a result unless it all melts.

The lions share of my time in the last two days since our move has been spent unpacking and generally attempting to make the house more livable. I started with the living room and dining room, which are the most important spaces. I made some cellophane ghosts out of used packing materials and hung them out for Halloween to try and attract children who might skip our place because there's a park down the street. We also bought some candy at WalMart in the late morning after returning the truck and getting some McDonalds sausage and egg mcmuffins for breakfast. I also took time to carve a very simple pumpkin. In the end, we only got about 40 trick or treaters yesterday, but I distinctly heard one of them say, "That was the best house yet!" upon leaving my doorstep, and another while waiting in line to pick candy, "This is gonna be great!" Mission accomplished.

And that's really pretty much all I have to say. Back to my regularly scheduled work day tomorrow, with a side of rooting through the boxes with Kitchen labels to try and find the silverware, since whatever box that's in isn't labelled with silverware or the ever important "Use Immediately" stickers I made. It was a pretty decently organized move though actually. Whew, okay, I'm exhausted. Time for sleep! Or possibly more Britain's Got Talent auditions. =)
